Unit Secretary - PACU

About This Role

The Unit Secretary facilitates safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care by performing clerical and receptionist duties in a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This role involves computer order entry, data retrieval, maintaining unit supplies, and acting as the central communication source on the nursing unit.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical and receptionist functions including computer order entry and retrieval of data
• Maintain unit supplies and transport supplies, equipment, and patient medications
• Prepare and maintain patient charts
• Provide customer service and act as the central communication source on the nursing unit
• Answer telephone calls and patient call lights, communicating patient needs to the healthcare team
• Facilitate patient admission, transfer, and discharge
• Track bed activity and notify housekeeping of patient discharge
• Place physician and ancillary consults
• Maintain computer and other related IT equipment, reporting malfunctions
• Ensure a safe environment for unit operations and comply with infection control policies

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Less than 1 year clinical experience in acute care setting preferred
