Unit Secretary - Emergency Department

About This Role

This role facilitates safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care by performing clerical and receptionist functions in the Emergency Department. The Unit Secretary acts as the central communication source and supports the nursing unit by managing patient records, supplies, and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical and receptionist functions including computer order entry and data retrieval
• Maintain unit supplies, transport supplies/equipment/patient medications
• Prepare and maintain patient charts
• Provide excellent customer service to patients and families
• Answer telephone calls and patient call lights, communicating patient needs to healthcare team
• Facilitate patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes
• Track bed activity and notify housekeeping of patient discharge
• Act as a liaison between patients and diagnostic areas to determine anticipated test/procedure times
• Ensure safe environment for unit operations and follow infection control policies
• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with Wellstar Health System policies

Requirements

• Ability to read, write and speak the English language
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
• Ability to collaborate with other health care providers
• Ability to multi-task and function in stressful/emergency situations
• Strong detail orientation
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to enter information into an electronic medical record
• Basic medical terminology

Qualifications

• High School Diploma General or GED General
• Less than 1 year clinical experience in acute care setting preferred

• Less than 1 year clinical experience in acute care setting
