Lab Support Services Specialist

About This Role

This role involves performing a variety of technical and non-technical duties within laboratory service areas, including data entry, specimen processing, and phlebotomy, to enhance the health and well-being of patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform HIS/LIS data entry, troubleshooting, and laboratory technical support functions.
• Provide customer service to patients and healthcare providers.
• Receive and process specimens, including preparing them for transport, microbiology processing, and loading on automation.
• Conduct phlebotomy procedures and specimen collection techniques.
• Operate pre-analytical and specimen storage robots.
• Assist in multiple laboratory areas based on workload and staffing needs.
• Check all specimens for quality and quantity, cancelling unacceptable ones if necessary.
• Centrifuge, decant, or split specimens as needed and deliver to testing areas promptly.
• Prepare specimens for transport to reference labs via tracking and pending logs.
• Identify patients using two identifiers before drawing blood and confirm secure positioning post-procedure.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• BLS or ARC-BLS or BLS-I Certification
• Strong written and verbal communication

• Data entry skills
• Typing 40 wpm
• Working computer knowledge

Qualifications

• High School Diploma General or GED General
• Experience in either phlebotomy and / or specimen processing in an outpatient or hospital laboratory environment preferred
