About This Role

The Unit Clerical Assistant provides receptionist and clerical support for the assigned unit, ensuring effective customer service and assisting patients' families with information and visitation guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate effective communication and customer service skills
  • Serve as a receptionist to all visitors, providing appropriate information and taking/delivering family messages
  • Interact positively with other members of the health care team to meet patient and family needs
  • Promptly and courteously answer patient calls and notify appropriate clinicians
  • Greet all visitors courteously with respect to social, cultural, and ethnic needs
  • Act as a resource to families/visitors by providing information about hospital services and city information
  • Maintain visitor areas on a continuous basis with the housekeeper/USA and volunteers
  • Ensure proper utilization of waiting areas, explaining and enforcing hospital visitation guidelines, and monitoring visitors
  • Report problems quickly to appropriate supervisor or security
  • Provide proactive customer service to employees and visitors, maintaining professional appearance and demeanor
  • Perform clerical duties
  • Coordinate area communication system/procedures
  • Greet all persons entering and exiting the unit and provide identification stickers to visitors
  • Participate in Quality Improvement Program

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year experience as secretarial/administrative coordinator in hospital/doctor’s office
