This role is for an experienced Traveling Substation Technician to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems within utility substations across the United States. The position supports utility-scale electrical infrastructure projects on a 3-weeks-on / 1-week-off rotation, ensuring safety, quality, and operational reliability in dynamic construction environments.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems within utility substations
- Perform work on transformers, breakers, switchgear, grounding systems, and control wiring
- Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
- Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on energized and non-energized equipment
- Follow OSHA, NFPA 70E, and site-specific safety protocols
- Maintain accurate daily reports and inspection records
- Coordinate with foremen, engineers, and project managers
- Support mobilization and demobilization of materials and equipment
- Assist with timely completion of field-based construction activities
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in substation or utility-related electrical work
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards and PPE requirements
- Ability to read and interpret electrical plans and wiring schematics
- Familiarity with substation equipment including breakers, relays, and control systems
- Willingness to travel nationwide on a full-time basis
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to work extended hours and overtime as required
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in substation or utility-related electrical work
Nice to Have
- Experience with utility providers or EPC contractors
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience operating construction or material-handling equipment
