Manage high voltage and EHV Transmission Line projects, overseeing administrative, commercial, and technical components to meet client objectives and WSP's core values. This role ensures overall project performance, including financial, technical, client satisfaction, quality, safety, and schedule adherence.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams executing transmission line project work, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, and managing contractual obligations.
- Contribute to the development of project proposals, cost estimates, scope, schedules, and resource plans.
- Develop work breakdown structure (WBS) tasks and estimated costs.
- Establish the level of technical review required and select qualified staff to perform reviews, ensuring adherence to the QA/QC plan.
- Contribute to performing margin analyses, establishing margin goals and risk contingencies.
- Coordinate and assist with the technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentation, and meetings.
- Develop and update Project Initiation/Setup Documentation, including Risk, Project Management Plan (PMP), Quality Plan (QP), Safety Plan (PSP), and Communications Plan.
- Participate in project kick-off meetings with key stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with Project Accounting to monitor and track project metrics, estimated time-to-completion, cash management, and budgeted margin.
- Oversee management of budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost and change management and control.
- Coordinate with area/technical managers to address project resource and subcontracting requirements.
- Communicate and escalate project site Health & Safety or significant client issues to senior PM staff and leadership.
- Provide regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and business unit managers, identifying emergent issues.
- Monitor accounts receivable (AR) and unbilled revenue, working to address issues as needed.
- Work with the Procurement Department to closeout procurements and/or supplier agreements.
- Complete formal project closeout activities and conduct lessons-learned meetings.
- Remain current in the latest Project Management techniques and practices (PMAP).
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in a project management role within the Power Delivery/Utility Industry.
- Minimum of 2 years applicable industry experience working and/or providing engineering services for IOUs, IPPs, Co-Ops, Munis, etc.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience leading engineering and/or construction teams on medium to large electrical utility scale clients for high voltage and/or extra high voltage transmission line type projects.
- Knowledge and experience with project management processes and tools, including: Contract Management, External and Internal Team Meeting Management, Earned Value Management, Change Management, Risk Management, Schedule Management (including Primavera P6 or equivalent), Financial Management.
- Sound understanding of project delivery process within the Power Delivery/Utility and well-defined background and experience in project management.
- Well-developed analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge the business and project management.
- Competent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to changing prioritization.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and provide guidance and leadership to junior team members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Competent with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating resources and assertively directing consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and others.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in a project management role within the Power Delivery/Utility Industry, with a minimum of 2 years applicable industry experience and 2 years leading engineering and/or construction teams on electrical utility scale transmission line projects.
Nice to Have
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Essential project management certification (e.g., PMP, CAP-M).
