Design, prepare specifications, and review mechanical systems for power generation facilities. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams and providing guidance to junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities
- Prepare mechanical equipment and packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQs, and technical bid evaluations
- Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and data, interfacing with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, and detailers/designers
- Ensure effective communications with other engineering disciplines
- Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical systems
- Participate in the development of PFD’s and P&ID's
- Perform piping design activities including sizing, pressure drop calculations, stress analysis, and pipe support design
- Execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assisting with equipment installation, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting
- Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers
- Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline
- 5+ years of relevant post education experience in mechanical design for industrial facilities
- Engineer in Training Certification
- Working knowledge of Microstation or Auto CAD
- Working knowledge of Smart Plant 3D or CADworx
- Experience using Caesar II or AutoPipe
- Experience using Thermoflow
- Working knowledge of relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
- Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles
- Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses
- Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design of facilities, structures and systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline
- 5+ years of relevant post education experience in mechanical design for industrial facilities

- Master’s Degree in Engineering
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification
- Power plant design experience
- Renewable natural gas plant design experience
