This role involves conducting and leading engineering efforts for the inactivation and disposal of CVN68 Class carriers, including developing specifications, conducting studies, and interfacing with various organizations and government entities. The engineer will also perform calculations, analyses, and risk assessments to support planning decisions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and lead engineering efforts associated with the inactivation/disposal of CVN68 Class carriers
- Develop and apply governing specifications
- Perform various engineering studies
- Interface with multiple disciplines, organizations, and the government to support planning and execution of inactivation efforts
- Perform residual water determinations
- Review and update inactivation guidelines
- Conduct dismantlement studies
- Provide shipboard technical support
- Manage equipment reutilization
- Perform environmental impact studies
- Perform engineering calculations, analyses, cost benefit analysis, risk assessments and studies to support planning decisions
- Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
Requirements
- US Citizenship
- Working understanding of reactor plant systems and governing design documents
- Familiarization with Propulsion Plant systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
- 5 years of relevant exempt experience with a Bachelor's, or 3 years with a Master's
Nice to Have
- Experience with engineering drawings, piping and mechanical systems, and working to established specifications and standards
- Experience with Nuclear Temporary Support systems and working experience with radiological work practices
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, establish plans and milestones for accomplishment of significant projects, and lead and provide oversight for the work of other engineers
- Experience with the Availability Work Package (AWP) development process
- Knowledge and prior experience with 3-D modeling and drafting programs, such as AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor
- Excellent communication, and organizational skills as well as experience and proficiency with formal written technical communication
