Geological Engineering Intern

About This Role

This is a full-time, temporary internship position within the Earth and Environment Team, allowing you to gain hands-on experience in geological engineering while contributing to real projects. You will develop technical, social, and ethical skills alongside senior staff.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of Geological engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
• Learn basic principles of Geological Engineering
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis
• Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation
• Complete training on assigned tasks
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
• Must be 18 or older
• Demonstrated interest in Geological Engineering, or related field
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
• Hold a valid U.S. Driver’s License
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
• Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later

Nice to Have

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related, Masters or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
• Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
• A member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organization
• 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120)
• MSHA Part 48A Underground Coal and Metal/Non-metal Training (30 CFR 48)
• Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training
