About This Role

The Junior Transmission Line Design Engineer will join WSP's Power & Energy team to contribute to overhead transmission line projects for a client in Rochester, NY. This role involves performing various studies, reviewing designs, and assisting with project management to ensure compliance with standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conductor selection and structure recommendations
  • Conduct insulation, A/C interference, static wire, and grounding studies
  • Design lines including plans, profiles, and cross-section details
  • Analyze LiDAR and aerial photo data
  • Utilize wetlands, vernal pool, and sensitive resource data in line and structure design
  • Assist in leading overall transmission line design for capital projects
  • Review/design transmission line plan and profile drawings using PLSCADD
  • Determine required structure designs and optimal routing to minimize crossings
  • Develop technical specifications, QA/QC procedures, and deliverable templates
  • Review design documents for construction, including foundations design drawings

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
  • 1+ years post-education experience in Transmission Line Design
  • Knowledge of codes and standards such as NESC, AISC, IEEE and ANSI
  • Experience with Finite Element modeling within PLS-CADD, POLE, & TOWER
  • Experience with MFAD, HFAD, LPILE, AutoCAD, and MicroStation
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to coordinate and direct subcontractors
  • Ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering or closely related degree
  • 1+ years post education experience, preferably in Transmission Line Design with voltages up to 115 kV HVAC.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification
  • Modeling experience with PSCAD
