Temporary Limited Commissioned Ranger

About This Role

This temporary position as a Limited Commissioned Ranger at Yampa River and Elkhead Reservoir State Parks involves enforcing park and wildlife laws, responding to emergencies, and overseeing visitor services. The role is critical for preserving natural resources and ensuring enjoyable outdoor recreation opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Enforce park and wildlife laws and regulations
• Issue citations for violations
• Patrol park areas by vehicle, bicycle, or foot
• Respond to emergencies and resolve visitor complaints
• Complete reports and potentially appear in court
• Conduct inspections on boats and watercraft for aquatic nuisance species (on water-based parks)
• Assist with revenue collection and verification
• Assist with daily park operations, facility maintenance, repair, and cleanliness
• Assist with fee collection, accounting, and deposits
• Participate in environmental education and interpretive programs

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation
• Must be free of felony convictions or pending charges
• Must possess current First Aid and CPR certifications prior to employment
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly
• Must be able to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check
• Ability to attend and successfully complete required Colorado State Park training
