This role involves maintaining Colorado's roadways, ensuring safety and accessibility for travelers. The specialist will perform a variety of tasks related to highway upkeep, including operating heavy equipment and responding to emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Plowing snow
- Operating heavy equipment like tandem dump trucks and loaders
- Mowing grass and weeds
- Removing debris from roadways, culverts, and tunnels
- Shoveling gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt
- Digging ditches
- Installing and repairing guardrail, highway markers, signs, and lighting
- Filling potholes and roadway cracks
- Setting out signs and cones for traffic control
- Maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs
- Responding to weather and other emergencies while on-call
Requirements
- 2+ years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado
- Willingness to pass a controlled substance test and DOT physical
- Ability to work on-call, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures and varying elevations up to 12,000 feet
Qualifications
- At least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience

- Likes physically demanding work and working outdoors
- Experience operating single and tandem axle dump trucks, front end loaders, bulldozers, backhoes
- Experience using hand tools
- Basic computer skills
