Highway Maintenance Specialist

About This Role

This role involves maintaining Colorado's roadways, ensuring safety and accessibility for travelers. The specialist will perform a variety of tasks related to highway upkeep, including operating heavy equipment and responding to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Plowing snow
• Operating heavy equipment like tandem dump trucks and loaders
• Mowing grass and weeds
• Removing debris from roadways, culverts, and tunnels
• Shoveling gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt
• Digging ditches
• Installing and repairing guardrail, highway markers, signs, and lighting
• Filling potholes and roadway cracks
• Setting out signs and cones for traffic control
• Maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs
• Responding to weather and other emergencies while on-call

Requirements

• 2+ years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado
• Willingness to pass a controlled substance test and DOT physical
• Ability to work on-call, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures and varying elevations up to 12,000 feet

Qualifications

• At least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience

• Experience using hand tools
