Telecommunications Operator

About This Role

Serve as the hospital's telephone receptionist, welcoming patients and customers while efficiently operating a computerized telephone console for communications. Handle public address and paging mechanisms, coordinate telephone repairs, and manage emergency protocols and alarms.

Responsibilities

• Operate computerized telephone console to assure efficient communications
• Determine the reason for customer contact (internal and external) and facilitate communications by answering calls promptly and forwarding them to appropriate locations
• Perform public address and paging mechanisms for contacting hospital personnel and physicians according to established standards
• Monitor, assign, and replace pagers for staff
• Coordinate with departments for telephone repairs, moves, and/or changes
• Insure callers on procedures for Voicemail, paging, help desk questions, etc.
• Maintain all paging equipment and emergency radios
• Maintain physician log sheets and daily emergency activity log book
• Notify hospital staff of all emergency and critical situations and respond immediately following established procedures and protocols
• Record and monitor emergency situations, including fire alarm panel, security panel, hospital panic alarms, Code Adam alerts, 911 calls, and other emergency alarms
• Summon/dispatch/page all necessary personnel in an emergency situation (Code Blue, Trauma, Respiratory, RRT etc.) and record in a daily journal
• Act as an answering service for several departments by locating and paging personnel

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

Nice to Have

• One year of experience as a Telecommunications/Switchboard Operator, 911 Dispatcher, or working in a Call Center
