About This Role

The Sterile Processing Technician inspects, cleans, assembles, and processes patient care equipment, supplies, and instruments according to established policies and procedures. This role ensures the sterility of medical items in accordance with AAMI, JCAHO, CDC, and state standards of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform decontamination functions including manual cleaning and processing of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions for use
  • Apply proper knowledge of various detergents and chemical disinfectants for use in decontamination
  • Inventory, stock, and deliver supplies, carts, and equipment to all facility areas
  • Perform and document quality control aspects of sterile processing using various information technology systems
  • Operate and understand various sterilizers and sterilizing techniques required to produce sterile packages for surgical use
  • Document all activities and report variances that may affect sterile products or patient care and safety
  • Identify and resolve infection control issues in and around transport of biological hazardous materials
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the operation and testing of washers and/or disinfectors, steam, and hydrogen peroxide gas plasma sterilizers
  • Identify surgical instrumentation by surgical specialty, including functionality testing, assembly, and disassembly
  • Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification opportunities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One of the following certifications: CRCST, HSPA, or CBSPD

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

Nice to Have

  • Recent experience in surgical setting
  • EPIC training
