About This Role

Maintain recommended standards for set assembly, decontamination, inspection, containerizing, and sterilization of surgical instruments. Collaborate with Perioperative Nursing staff to provide sterile instrument sets and equipment in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and process instrument sets and equipment according to policy using aseptic technique and IAHCSMM, CBSPD, AAMI, AORN standards
  • Organize and assemble routine and specialty surgical instrumentation, case carts, and supplies per pick list and/or instrument count sheet
  • Operate and maintain Automatic Endoscope Reprocessor, Steam & STERRAD sterilizers, keeping records of completed loads and its contents
  • Inspect equipment, instruments, and packaging for cleanliness, defects, or malfunctions and process repair requests for defective equipment
  • Perform quality control through routine physical monitoring and cleaning to ensure sterilization equipment and instruments function properly
  • Perform decontamination and sterilization using sterilizers, case cart washers, and Automatic Endoscope Reprocessor as assigned
  • Perform picking of supplies for surgical procedures via case cart system as assigned
  • Complete and submit appropriate productivity documentation to supervisors daily
  • Adhere to all regulatory agency requirements (OSHA, FDA, CDC, JCAHO, DOH) regarding fire/safety, sterilization, universal precautions, and good documentation practices (GDP)
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician within 1-1/2 years OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician within 1-1/2 years
  • Excellent oral, written and computer skills
  • Proficiency in transporting and disposing of hazardous materials per hospital policy
  • Developed analytical decision-making abilities
  • Capable of working in a team environment with staff of varying backgrounds
  • Able to work with Perioperative Nursing staff to coordinate processing of instrument sets to accommodate the daily O.R. case load

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year in Sterile Processing operations preferred

Nice to Have

  • 1 year In Sterile Processing operations
  • Basic Life Support
