Nursing Assistant and Unit Secretary

About This Role

This role provides essential administrative and clinical support on the 6 Main surgical telemetry unit. You will interact with patients, visitors, and staff, manage medical records, transcribe orders, and assist with direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed linens and positioning
• Assist in the preparation and transportation of patients for tests and procedures
• Monitor patient condition levels and report changes to the appropriate individuals
• Ensure patient rooms, nursing areas, and supply carts are stocked with appropriate items at required levels
• Greet, direct, and assist physicians, visitors, patients, and ancillary department staff
• Answer telephones with personable etiquette and respond to intercom and email communications
• Enter and retrieve data from established computer files using various applications like Patient Management and PowerChart
• Create and maintain patient medical records, including assembling charts, ensuring signed orders, and placing transcribed orders
• Transcribe physician orders and documents on paper or electronic records, including placing pharmacy orders on the MAR
• Schedule tests, procedures, and other patient services, conferring with clinical care providers as needed

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Less than 1 year relevant experience
• Basic Life Support certification
• Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
• Excellent computer skills and ability to use various software applications in a windows environment

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Less than 1 year relevant experience

Nice to Have

• Certified Nurse Aide
• Completion of course for unit secretaries and medical terminology
