Teacher for the Visually Impaired

About This Role

This is a contract position for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired to support K-12 students in a school setting in Lowell, MA. The role involves delivering individualized instruction, collaborating with staff and families, and assessing student progress to maximize learning outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized instruction tailored to students with visual impairments in grades K-12
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and support staff to develop and implement educational plans
• Assess student needs and progress regularly, adapting strategies to maximize learning outcomes
• Utilize specialized teaching tools and technology appropriate for visually impaired students
• Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages student independence and confidence

Requirements

• Active Visual Impairment (VI) Teacher License in Massachusetts or valid MA DOE License
• Successful completion of MTELs relevant to the role
• Strong knowledge of instructional strategies and accommodations to meet diverse student needs
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Nice to Have

• Previous experience teaching students with visual impairments within a K-12 educational setting preferred
