About This Role

The Teacher Assistant supports the classroom team in implementing developmentally appropriate activities for early childhood education, focusing on enhancing children's physical, emotional, and cognitive growth. This role ensures a safe and inclusive learning environment while actively engaging with students, parents, and families.

Responsibilities

  • Familiarize self with Center philosophy and classroom operations
  • Assist in implementing the guidelines and goals for the classroom by contributing ideas for lesson plans
  • Conduct small group activities
  • Supervise children engaged in play activities
  • Observe and report children's behavior to the teacher
  • Ensure safety rules are observed and guard against harmful situations on field trips, walking trips, and on the playground
  • Assist in serving meals and snacks
  • Implement acceptable child management techniques
  • Recognize the stages of development of young children and maintain knowledge of basic child development of the age group assigned
  • Set up and monitor equipment and materials in classroom and playground area
  • Attend to physical care and health needs of the children and keep records as required
  • Assist in collecting child’s information for portfolio and writing child’s assessment and conducting parent/teacher conferences

Requirements

  • Child Development Associate credential OR a minimum of 2 years of college, including 6 hours of early childhood education or child development courses
  • For 3-5 year old classroom Teacher Assistants: Illinois State Board of Education Paraprofessional Educator license

Qualifications

  • Child Development Associate credential OR a minimum of 2 years of college, including 6 hours of early childhood education or child development courses
  • Entry level position, experience a plus but not explicitly required beyond education
