This internship serves court-involved youth by delivering educational and enriching programs at the Juvenile Detention Home. The intern will research, develop, and deliver programming, collaborating with teachers and mental health staff.
Responsibilities
- Deliver educational but fun and enriching programs to detained youth
- Research programming options
- Develop appropriate curricula for summer enrichment
- Deliver selected programming to residents in a classroom setting
- Work closely with teachers and mental health staff to develop lesson plans
- Gain familiarity with the facility and residents
Requirements
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
- Minimum GPA of at least 2.8
- Ability to participate in the full 10-week program
- Commitment to public service
- Genuine interest in learning about public administration
- Comfortable working with juvenile offenders in a detention setting
- Ability to work effectively with juveniles who have behavioral problems and mental health needs
- Ability to facilitate psycho-educational groups
- Knowledge and experience providing recreational therapeutic activities (Music, art, exercise, play, effective social skills, coping skills, stress management)
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
