Substation Drafter Intern

About This Role

This internship requires working with engineering and other technical subject matter experts in electrical substation and protections & controls design services, performing CAD work for various engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Open, revise, plot, and save drawing CAD files
• Create new drawings from templates with title blocks and border drawing blocks
• Create and modify drawing blocks, borders, and title blocks
• Provide direction for compiling, collating, assembling, and verifying completeness of drawing and project document packages
• Utilize advanced scaling with model and paper space
• Use style and formatting in CAD software
• Apply advanced knowledge of plot profiles and user profiles in CAD package
• Depict advanced ISO and 3-D views in drawings
• Assist CAD technicians and CAD operators in skill development
• Support project tasks as needed

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an associate degree program in engineering (preferably electrical engineering)
• Good skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations
• Ability to write reports and other business correspondence
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other staff members
• Mathematical skills commensurate with technical or engineering discipline
• In-depth understanding of basic computer systems and software packages

Qualifications

• Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, preferably electrical engineering
• Entry-level position with no experience required

Nice to Have

• BIM experience
• Experience with drafting programs, particularly AutoCAD and Revit
