Geotech-Geology Intern

About This Role

Join our Pennsylvania Geotechnical Group to gain hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering and geology, supporting subsurface investigations and various construction projects. This role involves fieldwork, data collection, and assistance with design and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical engineering/geology assignments including subsurface investigations and site characterization for various facilities (foundations for transmission lines, buildings, roadways, bridges, dams, retaining walls, and other structures)
• Install geotechnical field instrumentation
• Select samples for laboratory testing
• Perform earthwork construction monitoring and foundation inspection, interpreting specifications and construction drawings
• Evaluate site conditions based on construction excavations, monitor and report on construction activities, and perform field testing of soils
• Prepare boring logs and geologic cross sections
• Assist with proposals, budgets, schedules, specifications, and reports
• Assist with geotechnical engineering designs involving rock/soil slope stability, cut slope and fill embankment design, shallow and deep foundation recommendations, and landslide remediation

Requirements

• Enrolled in junior or senior year of ABET Accredited Civil Engineering Program, Geology Program, or Technical Geo-Science Program
• Ability to traverse steep terrain
• Ability to lift/carry/move up to 50 lbs
• Valid driver’s license
