Sterile Processing Tech

About This Role

Perform a variety of instrumentation decontamination, sterilization, packaging, inventory, and distribution tasks to ensure sterile supplies for medical procedures, adhering to established department policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble, clean, sterilize, reassemble, and package sterile supplies according to specifications and/or manufacturer instructions.
• Follow department procedures to use appropriate sterilization method for various types of instrumentation.
• Operate washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and ethylene oxide sterilizers, heat sealers, and additional equipment.
• Adhere to instrument count sheets for surgical sets and case carts.
• Cover and rotate trays and sets per sterile storage guidelines.
• Follow safety protocols to ensure no injury to self/others.
• Retrieve used trays, instruments and equipment from various surgical and clinical hospital areas for decontamination.
• Examine instruments and patient care equipment for cleanliness, proper assembly, and functionality.
• Identify malfunctioning items, record related information, and promptly notify supervisor or biomedical engineer.
• Receive and fill requisitions from hospital departments and nursing units, communicating with perioperative staff regarding instrument needs.
• Transport sterile supplies to assigned surgical and clinical locations.
• Assist in ordering, stocking, and maintaining department inventory levels.
• Perform required duties to maintain a contaminant-free work environment.
• Document and maintain records of daily activities according to department policies and procedures.
• Adhere to AORN, AAMI and Joint Commission standards in the performance of duties.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD) OR provisional certification (CRCST)
• Ability to lift/carry 25 pounds
• Manual dexterity, ability to stand, bend, lift and/or reach for extended periods of time
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing) and follow oral and/or written instructions

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience processing surgical information, preferred.
