Software Engineer II, Backend (Credit Decisioning)

About This Role

This role will support the Credit Decisioning team, focusing on building foundations and credit levers for scaling underwriting. It involves developing new underwriting features and products to expand Affirm's offerings and enable sustainable growth, working closely with various cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate to ensure timely delivery
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics, participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs
• Support the operations and availability of the team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts
• Contribute to a sense of community on the team by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
• Familiarity with the building blocks of distributed systems
• Familiarity with technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
• Ability to covert a simple problem or business scenario into a solution interacting with multiple software components, and execute by writing clear, easily understood, well tested and extensible code
• Comfortable navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback through code reviews
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
