Software Engineer II, Backend (Credit Decisioning)

About This Role

Join the Credit Core sub-team to build foundational credit levers, develop new underwriting features, and expand Affirm's product offerings. This role provides critical backend support and directly impacts business growth by scaling underwriting decisions for integrated POS merchants and wallet platforms.

Responsibilities

• Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery
• Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics
• Participate in ideation, articulate technical constraints, and partner on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs
• Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics
• Escalate when needed and support “keep the lights on” and on-call efforts
• Contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
• Familiarity with distributed systems
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer
