About This Role

This role involves driving renewable energy site development projects, with a focus on Solar, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) facilities. The Senior Technical Manager will lead the technical aspects of civil engineering design, permitting, and management of these projects within the Site Development Civil Team, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Drive renewable energy site development projects with an emphasis on Solar, Wind, and BESS facilities, supporting behind-the-meter generation for commercial and industrial clients
  • Determine methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical worksites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction
  • Perform professional civil engineering work, conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions to determine conformance with applicable rules and standards
  • Lead development of sites and permitting plans for various energy sector projects including electrical transmission, solar and onshore wind projects
  • Lead development of civil, erosion and sediment control, drainage/stormwater and utility designs
  • Lead development of permit application documents, engineering design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates
  • Manage staff and day-to-day operations
  • Coordinate with clients and governmental agencies to fulfill project needs and acquire necessary permits or approvals
  • Oversee development and scoping of medium-sized projects
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or closely related discipline
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in renewable energy engineering and prior civil design experience
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Project management and task management skills
  • Proficiency in work execution and team building experience
  • Strong knowledge of site grading, stormwater, and erosion and sedimentation controls for renewable energy projects
  • Understanding of stormwater permitting (NPDES)
  • Strong knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
  • Experience leading and defining technical computations and calculations
  • Project management experience with mid-level to large projects including tracking hours and expenses

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or closely related discipline
  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in renewable energy engineering and prior civil design experience

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas, Ohio, Illinois
  • NCEES record
  • Past leadership on site development projects renewable energy project and client facing
  • Previous staff management experience
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D Software Suite
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D/LDD and familiarity with grading and earthwork concepts
