This role supports an in-house government legal team by managing various aspects of the company's litigation portfolio, including eDiscovery activities, workflow management, and direct attorney support.
Responsibilities
- Prepare a variety of complex technical legal documents including indictments, arrest warrants, and motions
- Review incoming documents and material, considering the nature and status of the case involved
- Obtain required information from criminal case files, law enforcement, or other sources for legal documents
- Ensure documents conform to local court rules and style/format guidelines
- Assist attorneys in preparing for trial by compiling trial and witness notebooks, and organizing exhibits
- Coordinate with victim/witness specialists to ensure adherence to Departmental guidelines
- Verify legal citations and statutory references using Westlaw and/or Lexis/Nexis
- Proofread, edit, and revise legal briefs
- Electronically file legal documents with the U.S. District Court using the CM/ECF system
- Develop and organize tables of contents and indices to briefs
- Compose original correspondence requiring knowledge of legal procedures and terminology
- Scan/input and link case-related materials into electronic discovery databases and manage them
- Manage discovery processing and production, including bates-stamping and redacting documents
- Maintain electronic case files, enter data in case management system, and calendar deadlines
Requirements
- Paralegal certificate or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school (completed at least one year of study)
- 2+ years of litigation paralegal experience
- 1+ year of experience in automated litigation support
- Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems
- Sound working knowledge of legal research procedures and resources
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw
- Hands-on familiarity with computer applications (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, hardware systems)
- Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources
- Ability to consistently deliver high quality work under pressure
Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school (completed at least one year of study)
- At least two years of litigation paralegal experience and at least one year of experience in automated litigation support; trial experience is very helpful.
