Lead and guide Medical Assistants in providing paraprofessional nursing care, including preparing patients, administering tests, and coordinating patient needs. Provide input on staff performance and assist in their training while performing all medical assistant functions in a high-volume neurology practice.
Responsibilities
- Lead and guide Medical Assistants in the performance of duties
- Provide input for the assessment and evaluation of staff performance
- Participate in orientation and ongoing training of staff
- Assist in prioritizing and assigning work based on workflow fluctuations
- Handle and/or act as a resource for difficult or complex issues
- Support management in determining methods and procedures for new tasks
- Act as point of contact for vendors
- Perform all functions of a medical assistant
- Stock patient rooms/department with supplies and equipment as necessary
- Conduct audit of department for supplies and equipment and perform ordering functions
- Collaborate with members of health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care
- Perform measurement and screening procedures according to protocol (height, weight, blood pressure, etc.)
- Collect specimens including drawing blood, and/or assist the physician or nurses in collection of specimens
- Perform electrocardiograms in accordance with physician orders
- Assist physicians and nurses with examinations and procedures related to the clinical area-of-assignment
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stock assigned rooms and cupboards
- Ensure that all data collected for procedures performed is recorded clearly and accurately on appropriate forms and in medical records
- Perform variety of other functions such as maintaining medical records, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of Medical Assisting program at an accredited school OR 1-3 years of medical assistant experience OR 1-3 years of Emergency Medical Technician experience with current NYS DOH EMT certification OR 1-3 years of CNA experience with valid Current Nursing Assistant Certification in New York State
