Join a dynamic team supporting the U.S. Navy by performing successful and safe work on board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations. This role involves fabricating and assembling various electromechanical and electronic assemblies while applying appropriate safety techniques.
Responsibilities
- Receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer; perform recurring work independently
- Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement
- Select, set up, and operate standard test equipment and record test data
- Construct components, subunits, or simple models or adapt standard equipment
- Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings
- Perform computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plot data and draw simple curves and graphs
- Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operate and adjust simple test equipment; record test data
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance
- Ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening
- Ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification
- Ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift
- 5 years experience in electrical work in a related field
- Experience managing a crew of 6-10 people
- Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ-45, DB type connectors
- Ability to read drawings (Tradesman level)
- QCI instruction of lower technicians
- Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP
- Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts
- Multipin competent
- Electrical testing requirements (ground checks, RSPT testing)
- Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook-ups & multiple meter knowledge
- Familiarization with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation
- Ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to various work sites
- Ability to travel to Newport News, VA
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years experience in electrical work in a related field, with experience managing a crew of 6-10 people.
