Senior Manager, Data Science - LLM Customization Team

About This Role

Lead the AI Foundations LLM Customization team to bring Capital One's vision for LLMs and GenAI to life. This role involves partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver AI products and leveraging advanced machine learning technologies to extract insights from customer data.

Responsibilities

• Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, applied researchers, software engineers, machine learning engineers and product managers to deliver AI powered products
• Leverage a broad stack of technologies to reveal insights within huge volumes of numeric and textual data
• Serve as the expert in Natural Language Processing (NLP) to harness the power of Large Language Models (LLMs), adapt and finetune them for business specific applications
• Build NLP models through all phases of development, from design through training, evaluation, and validation
• Partner with engineering teams to operationalize models in scalable and resilient production systems
• Translate the complexity of work into tangible business goals
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies, staying current on state-of-the-art methods, technologies, and applications
• Bring definition to big, undefined problems by asking questions and pushing for answers
• Deliver models at scale both in training data and inference volumes
• Deliver libraries, platforms, or solution level code to existing products

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree plus 7 years of experience in data analytics, or Master’s Degree plus 5 years of experience in data analytics, or PhD plus 2 years of experience in data analytics
• At least 3 years’ experience in open source programming languages for large scale data analysis
• At least 3 years’ experience with machine learning
• At least 3 years’ experience with relational databases

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in data analytics, or Master’s Degree in data analytics, or PhD in data analytics
• 7 years of experience in data analytics with a Bachelor's, 5 years with a Master's, or 2 years with a PhD; at least 3 years in open source programming for large scale data analysis, machine learning, and relational databases.

Nice to Have

• PhD in “STEM” field plus 4 years of experience in data analytics
• At least 1 year of experience working with AWS
• At least 1 year of experience managing people
• At least 5 years’ experience in Python, Scala, or R for large scale data analysis
• At least 5 years’ experience with machine learning
• Experience in training language models or large computer vision models
• Expertise in training optimization, self-supervised learning, explainability, RLHF
