About This Role

The Senior Attorney will provide legal advice and counsel to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, specifically representing and advising the Division of Agricultural Environmental Services. This role involves handling complex litigation, administrative actions, and legal research related to agricultural regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Render requested legal advice and counsel to the Commissioner and department employees.
  • Handle complex cases in state and federal courts and administrative proceedings under the Florida Administrative Procedures Act.
  • Handle contract matters, real estate proceedings, legal opinions, and legal research.
  • Attend staff meetings and provide legal advice and counsel on statutory responsibilities.
  • Represent the Commissioner and the department in liaison with the Florida Attorney General and other agencies.
  • Attend legislative committee meetings, draft legislation, and monitor proposed legislation.
  • Draft rules and regulations, conduct conferences and public hearings, and manage rule adoption procedures.
  • Monitor outside attorneys retained for litigation.

Requirements

  • Admission to the Florida Bar
  • Two years of professional legal experience

Qualifications

  • Admission to the Florida Bar
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings.
