About This Role

Serve as a Law Enforcement Officer for the State of Florida Capitol Police, ensuring the safety and security of state government officials and the Capitol Complex. Respond to criminal activity and security threats while maintaining professional demeanor and communications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain protection of the Capitol Complex
  • Respond to complaints relating to criminal activity or security threats within the Capitol Complex
  • Enforce Florida Statutes as they relate to the security and protection of the Capitol Complex
  • Comply with and maintain knowledge of all departmental policies and standard operation procedures
  • Project a professional demeanor while performing assigned duties
  • Maintain communications via radio while on duty
  • Attend in-service and specialized training
  • Conduct other assignments as required

Requirements

  • United States citizen
  • Minimum of 19 years old
  • Not convicted of any felony or any misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement
  • No dishonorable discharge from any of the United States Armed Forces
  • Be of good moral character
  • Passed a physical examination by a licensed medical specialist
  • Possess a passing score on the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification Examination and be eligible to receive the Law Enforcement Certification
  • Completed the Florida Equivalency of Training (CJSTC 76) and be eligible to receive the Law Enforcement Certification

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent

Nice to Have

  • Current Department of Corrections certification
  • Honorably discharged from any of the United States Armed Forces
  • Previously sworn law enforcement officer whose law enforcement standards have lapsed
  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Currently in a law enforcement academy, has military experience or an out-of-state law enforcement officer eligible for equivalency of training
  • Florida Correctional Officer currently in a Cross-Training Corrections to Law Enforcement training
