Security Officer II

About This Role

This role involves safeguarding employees, patients, visitors, and property within the Bassett Healthcare Network by enforcing security and safety regulations, patrolling assigned areas, and responding to emergencies. The Security Officer II also manages parking enforcement and traffic control.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of security and safety functions to safeguard employees, patients, visitors, and property following Bassett Healthcare Network policies
• Provide parking enforcement and traffic control for all patients, visitors, and employees throughout hospital property
• Maintain security and safety in assigned areas, including all buildings within the main campus and affiliated properties
• Operate and monitor security control panel alarms, surveillance cameras, and related security equipment
• Issue photo identifications for new employees and replacements for existing staff, checking ID cards of persons entering facilities
• Ensure facilities are properly secured after hours, reporting maintenance problems to proper authorities
• Take immediate action during codes or other emergencies on campus
• Monitor, detain, restrain, and effectively manage disruptive or combatant patients
• Respond to all pages within 5 minutes and emergencies, codes, and spills
• Coordinate and attend all helicopter take-off and landings as required
• Investigate situations regarding theft, vandalism, damage to vehicles, drug diversions, and missing persons
• Complete necessary information and maintain logs of all incidents occurring during each shift
• Assist all law enforcement agencies when requested or required within hospital regulations and HIPPA
• Report all MVAs to the Manager of Security and complete all necessary documentation
• Collect and transport money and handle small amounts of cash transactions when necessary
• Manage lost and found items and maintain applicable logs and records
• Receive and maintain patient valuables in safekeeping
• Respond to and receive shipments of goods to the hospital after regular hours
• Assist Funeral Directors with access and provide records and receipts of personal belongings of the deceased

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1 year of security officer experience OR 2 years of active military service with Honorable Discharge
• Valid NYS Class D driver's license
• Valid NYS Security Guard License within 90 days of hire
• CPR/AED certification within 120 days of hire
• First Aid certification within 120 days of hire
• Aerosol Subject Restraint (Pepper Spray) certification within 120 days of hire

Qualifications

• High School or GED, required; 2 year / Associate Degree in Security or Law Enforcement, preferred
• Minimum 1-year of security officer experience in a public or private security force, or 2-years active military service with Honorable Discharge

Nice to Have

• Associate Degree in Security or Law Enforcement
• Completion of official police or peace officer training academy
• Valid NYS Armed Security Guard License
• NYS Certified Police Officer/Peace Officer
