About This Role

Serve as a Security Assistant for the Police Service at the Lake City - Florida Veterans Healthcare System, providing physical security support, monitoring alarms and cameras, and disseminating information to first responders.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor physical security equipment and systems
  • Respond to alarms, trace access patterns, program, assign or remove user permissions, and remotely open and secure doors
  • Determine when to dispatch law enforcement or other personnel to investigate unusual activity
  • Maintain radio/alarm activity records/logs, including dates, times, and results of communications
  • Prepare completed reports
  • Issue and retrieve government issued keys and/or identification cards
  • Maintain accountability of Police Officer badges issued and all associated logs
  • Monitor and receive routine and emergency calls from various sources requiring police, fire, medical or other emergency services
  • Maintain contact with law enforcement units and monitor/direct responses to security and life safety communications
  • Operate a variety of communications equipment, telephones, and computer systems to support routine and emergency operations
  • Perform system checks on dispatch center equipment, troubleshoot systems, and resolve issues
  • Conduct equipment inventories and complete records and logs
  • Enter, update, and retrieve information from computer systems/databases
  • Use state and National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) to access sensitive law enforcement information
  • Enter or update regional and national records
  • Compile and prepare reports related to events occurring in the police control center
  • Complete vehicle registration tasks and issue decals and permits

Requirements

  • Knowledge of security or law enforcement objectives and programs
  • Experience carrying out support tasks related to law enforcement and security administration
  • Experience monitoring and responding to physical alarm systems and security cameras
  • Experience dispatching officers
  • Experience monitoring computers for video surveillance
  • Experience maintaining reports and logs
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, day shift, and night shift (24/7 coverage)
  • Ability to respond to work upon request for emergencies

Qualifications

  • 4 years of education above the high school level, or equivalent combination of post high school education and experience
  • 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in Federal service related to security or law enforcement
