This role offers seasonal LTE opportunities at Wisconsin State Parks, providing valuable experience in natural resources through various positions such as Park Technicians, Visitor Services Associates, and Assistant Naturalist Guides.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance of facilities and grounds, including mowing, trimming, signage installation, litter pickup, tree and brush removal, and kiosk repair.
- Manage properties and facilities to protect public health and safety, conducting building and designated use inspections.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, power tools, and sprayers.
- Fill and grade park roads, patch blacktop, and maintain culverts and shoulders.
- Greet visitors, collect and account for fees, and disseminate information at entrance stations or visitor contact stations.
- Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the park area, recreational opportunities, and services.
- Distribute brochures and maps, and inform visitors of potential safety hazards.
- Conduct property interpretive and environmental education programs for users.
- Conduct nature hikes and programs to educate users on natural features, flora, fauna, wildlife, and environmental issues.
- Develop and/or assist in developing education/naturalist programs and exhibits for the property.
Requirements
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
- Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
- At least 18 years of age
- Minimum of two years licensed driving experience (for most positions requiring driving)
- No more than three moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years (for most positions requiring driving)
- No OWI/DUI violations within the past year (for most positions requiring driving)
- Knowledge, skills and experience with general maintenance operations (Park Technicians)
- Building and/or facility repair or maintenance experience (Park Technicians)
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public (Visitor Services Associates, Assistant Naturalist Guides)
- Customer service and cash handling experience (Visitor Services Associates)
- Knowledge and experience working with computers (Visitor Services Associates)
- Vast knowledge of Wisconsin’s Natural Resources including the state’s recreation opportunities, environment and wildlife (Assistant Naturalist Guides)
