SCA Analytic Linguist

About This Role

The Analytic Linguist will provide crucial operational support to federal law enforcement by performing monitoring, translation, transcription, and interpretation of foreign language communications, ensuring national security missions worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Monitor live communication, perform immediate verbal summaries, and subsequent written or typed summaries into English
• Transcribe audio/video and written communications to and from source language to English
• Interpret consecutively or simultaneously to and from source language to English
• Validate the accuracy of other's original translation, transcription, or quality control reviews
• Summarize oral or written communications with concise and accurate synopses
• Provide reliable, accurate gists and summaries of intercepted communication to law enforcement officers
• Attend federal and state legal briefings relevant to Title III minimization
• Assist law enforcement officers in preparing evidence and investigation summaries for trials
• Serve as a 'fact' witness in federal or state court when subpoenaed to testify
• Maintain regular communication with the program manager regarding availability for assignments

Requirements

• Must be 18 years old or older
• Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
• Be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident with legal work status
• Minimum of one (1) year of translation experience in the required language
• Demonstrated proficiency in English and the target language (Spanish)
• Certified or the ability to become certified in listening, speaking, reading, and writing language proficiency in target native language and English
• Strong oral communication skills for effective communication with law enforcement
• Ability to understand slang and colloquial expressions in Spanish and translate them to English while retaining meaning and context
• Native fluency in Spanish
• Excellent command of English for producing clear and concise written translations, transcriptions, and summaries
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new software
• Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute (WPM)
• Familiarity with a variety of media storage including cassettes, videos, and digital media
• Ability to work well under pressure to meet specific deadlines
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of one (1) year of translation experience in the required language

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Jatom Systems Incorporated (JSI) VoiceBox Intercept System
• Familiarity with Pen-Link Lincoln Intercept System
• Experience as a linguist in support of defense, intelligence, or law enforcement agencies
• Federal law enforcement clearance
• Flexibility to support assignments on short notice
• Availability for multiple shifts to include weekends
