SCA Analytic Linguist

About This Role

SOSi is seeking a Spanish Analytic Linguist in Billings, MT to provide operational support for federal law enforcement customers, including live monitoring, translation, transcription, and interpretation for ongoing investigations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor live communication and perform immediate verbal and subsequent written summaries of foreign language communications in English
• Transcribe audio/video and written communications to and from source language to English
• Interpret consecutively or simultaneously to and from source language to English
• Validate the accuracy of other linguists' original translation, transcription, or quality control review
• Provide concise and accurate synopses (gists and summaries) of oral or written communications to law enforcement officers
• Attend federal and state legal briefings (Title III minimization)
• Assist law enforcement officers in the preparation of evidence and investigation summaries for trials
• Serve as a 'fact' witness in federal or state court when subpoenaed to testify
• Maintain regular communication with the program manager regarding availability for assignments
• Perform other duties as assigned by the customer or Program Manager

Requirements

• Must be 18 years old or older
• Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
• Be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident with legal work status
• Minimum one (1) year of translation experience in Spanish
• Demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanish through testing (within 5 years)
• Strong oral communication skills
• Ability to understand and translate slang and colloquial expressions in native language to English while preserving meaning and context
• Native fluency in Spanish
• Excellent command of English to produce clear and concise written translations, transcriptions, and summaries
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute (WPM)
• Familiarity with a variety of media storage including cassettes, videos, and digital media
• Ability to work well under pressure to meet specific deadlines
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of one (1) year of translation experience in the required language (Spanish)

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Jatom Systems Incorporated (JSI) VoiceBox Intercept System
• Familiarity with Pen-Link Lincoln Intercept System
• Experience as a linguist in support of defense, intelligence, or law enforcement agencies
• Federal law enforcement clearance
• Flexibility to support assignments on short notice
• Availability for multiple shifts including weekends
