SOSi is seeking an entry-level Spanish Analytic Linguist in Greensboro, NC to provide operational support to federal law enforcement customers. This role involves live monitoring, translation, transcription, and interpretation for ongoing investigations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor live communication, providing immediate verbal summaries and subsequent written or typed summaries in English.
- Transcribe audio/video and written communications to and from source language to English.
- Interpret consecutively or simultaneously to and from source language to English.
- Validate the accuracy of other linguists' original translations, transcriptions, or quality control reviews.
- Provide concise and accurate synopsis of oral or written communications.
- Provide reliable, accurate gists and summaries of intercepted communication to law enforcement officers.
- Attend federal and state legal briefings (Title III minimization) prior to new investigations.
- Assist law enforcement officers in preparing evidence and investigation summaries for trials.
- Serve as a 'fact' witness in federal or state court when subpoenaed to testify.
- Maintain regular communication with the program manager regarding availability for assignments.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years old or older
- U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident with legal work status
- Minimum one year of translation experience in Spanish
- Demonstrated proficiency (listening, speaking, reading, writing) in English and Spanish through testing within the last five years
- Strong oral communication skills for law enforcement officials
- Ability to understand and translate Spanish slang and colloquial expressions into English while preserving meaning
- Native fluency in Spanish
- Excellent command of English to produce clear and concise written works
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new software
- Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute (WPM)
- Familiarity with various media storage (cassettes, videos, digital media)
- Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one (1) year of translation experience in the required language.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Jatom Systems Incorporated (JSI) VoiceBox Intercept System
- Familiarity with Pen-Link Lincoln Intercept System
- Experience as a linguist supporting defense, intelligence, or law enforcement agencies
- Federal law enforcement clearance
- Flexibility to support assignments on short notice
- Availability for multiple shifts including weekends
