About This Role

Provide holistic, quality, and cost-effective nursing care for preoperative patients and caregivers, focusing on admission planning and identifying perioperative risk factors. You will collaborate with providers to complete preoperative education and testing while applying the nursing process to deliver direct patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and plan patient care by obtaining, assessing, and interpreting data, identifying and documenting problems, and utilizing scientific knowledge to organize care and interventions.
  • Coordinate and implement patient-centered care using evidence-based recommendations, ensuring documentation and communication, and delegating activities for patient safety.
  • Educate patients and caregivers to achieve established health goals and provide seamless care.
  • Utilize data to identify actual/potential perioperative risk factors, preadmission services, and special needs for referrals and additional interventions.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team members on pertinent patient care concerns impacting admission.
  • Demonstrate competencies in Nursing Practice (knowledge and behaviors) to meet age-specific patient needs.
  • Provide quality patient/customer service by accommodating customers, maintaining awareness of patient needs, utilizing discretion and compassion, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Provide preoperative education for patients/caregivers in accordance with current HHC Preoperative Guidelines.
  • Contribute to care improvement by coaching, mentoring, participating in performance/quality improvement, utilizing resources cost-effectively, and questioning current rituals in practice.
  • Complete venipuncture, EKG, nasal swabbing, vitals, height/weight, and assist with coordination of specialty consults as directed by the Pre-Admission Testing Center Provider(s).

Requirements

  • 3+ years diversified clinical nursing experience (medical/surgical or acute care)
  • Strong knowledge of patient care standards and procedures including pre and post-surgical care
  • Excellent communication (oral, written and listening) and interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • General computer skills
  • Ability to provide customer, patient, client centric service
  • Ability to provide age-specific care
  • Excellent attention to details and ability to prioritize efficiently

Qualifications

  • RN Diploma, Associate degree required, BSN preferred
  • Three (3) years diversified clinical nursing experience, including medical/surgical or acute care experience required

Certifications

BLS certification (Required) ACLS certification (Required)
