This RN Lactation Consultant position provides specialized lactation management care, offers staff development, and acts as an expert consultant to healthcare professionals. The role focuses on supporting breastfeeding patients within a family-centered maternity care model.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert care in lactation management according to ILCA Standards of Practice for IBCLC Lactation Consultants
- Provide informal and formal staff development learning activities related to breastfeeding management
- Serve as an expert consultant to maternal-child staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals in managing complex breastfeeding problems
- Participate in program development activities
- Practice according to the family-centered maternity care model
- Participate in the development, coordination, managing, facilitating, conducting, and evaluating of onboarding and orientation programs for nursing and other healthcare personnel
- Conduct orientation to facilitate a positive learning environment and incorporate organizational values/culture
- Identify learning needs of staff and assess practice gaps by comparing competencies to actual practice
- Plan educational content with learner engagement
- Partner with the Clinical Education Market Director to review outcomes data to evaluate and refine aptitude management activities
- Demonstrate an expertise of adult educational theory and apply evaluation methodologies into courses and curriculum
Requirements
- Associate Degree
- Continuing education in lactation and breastfeeding
- Experience with breastfeeding management
- Current IBCLC certification
- Current BLS provider certification
- NRP certification within 3 months of hire
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited professional school of nursing (preferred), Associate Degree (required), BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position if hired after 6/1/2012, Continuing education in lactation and breastfeeding (required)
- Minimum of two years’ experience in maternal-child health nursing in an acute care setting (preferred), Experience with breastfeeding management (required)
Nice to Have
- Graduate from an accredited professional school of nursing
- BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position if hired after 6/1/12
- Minimum of two years’ experience in maternal-child health nursing in an acute care setting
- Current RN License in the State of Texas or compact license
