About This Role

This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to bone marrow transplant patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans to optimize patient outcomes. The RN will also administer specialized care such as chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and manage patients with various medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments regarding the health status of the patient, following standards of care and disease specific protocols
  • Plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources
  • Provide direct nursing care and supervise non-licensed nursing staff within the RN’s scope of practice and in accordance with established policies
  • Provide education and emotional support appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstance and incorporate patient / family teaching into all aspects of nursing practice
  • Administer Chemotherapy/Biotherapy, including investigational protocols
  • Transfuse blood, platelets and fresh frozen plasma
  • Manage patients with radiation implants, central venous access devices and spinal drains
  • Assist with bone marrow biopsy and aspiration
  • Assist with thoracentesis and paracentesis
  • Manage epidural and intrathecal analgesia

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (ASN) from Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (Compact license accepted)
  • BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position
  • Current BLS- Healthcare Provider issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required
  • ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Provider must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS required within 6 months of hire

Qualifications

  • BSN required within 24 months of hire
  • Minimum of two years of experience in an acute care setting preferred. Oncology experience highly preferred.
