Residential Counselor

About This Role

Residential Counselors assist adults in BHN residential programs to develop skills for recovery and wellness. This role focuses on helping residents attain or resume their capacity for independent living while providing hope and motivation. The counselor will help residents heal and develop resiliency.

Responsibilities

• Provide counseling to help residents re-establish self-identity, sense of purpose and meaning in their lives
• Help residents develop plans for work, school, and/or volunteering, and making community connections
• Help residents develop life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, money management, social skills and knowledge of symptoms and medications
• Create treatment plans and discharge planning documents and delivers/reviews with residents
• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions

Requirements

• One (1) year of experience working with mentally ill consumers in a residential setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• BLS - Basic Life Support (includes RQI) within 14-days of hire
• Food Handler’s Card within 14-days of hire
• First Aid Card within 14-days of hire
• Washington State Counselor Agency Affiliated Registered or obtain within 90 days of hire
• Drivers License/Abstract

Qualifications

• AA degree in social services or related field preferred
• 1+ year of experience working with mentally ill consumers in a residential setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
