Deliver and ensure patient care in the Operating Room by assessing and diagnosing patient conditions, developing care plans, and evaluating responses. This role involves participating in patient education and discharge planning, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary care team.
Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate individualized patient care plans based on assessment findings, patient input, and collaboration with the health care team.
- Systematically and continuously assess patient's knowledge base and physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health through interviews, physical examinations, and data collection.
- Communicate pertinent information and changes in patient status to appropriate members of the care team and other health care providers.
- Provide and/or delegate patient care according to the plan of care and established protocols, utilizing clinical resources and providing rationale for decisions.
- Conduct clinical rounds, provide emergency care, and administer medications to patients.
- Perform and assist with procedures and treatments including changing dressings, feeding patients, and providing pre/post-operative care.
- Practice and monitor infection control standards and promote patient safety.
- Document patient care on all appropriate forms, including admission assessments, progress notes, vital signs, and pain scores.
- Provide patient education by identifying learning needs, informing patients and families, and developing teaching plans.
- Participate in quality improvement processes, including developing unit goals, attending in-service programs, and completing occurrence reports.
- Participate in unit staff meetings, clinical conferences, and represent the unit on committees.
- Perform the responsibilities of charge nurse and preceptor, as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
- BCLS
- ACLS or PALS
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred.
