This Registered Nurse (RN) position performs age-specific patient care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in collaboration with physicians and other health team members.
Responsibilities
- Assess the patient’s physiologic health status including gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, neurological, mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, and skin condition
- Assess patient’s psychosocial health status, eliciting perceptions of care, determining coping mechanisms, and identifying cultural/ethnic requirements
- Identify patient outcomes, develop criteria for measurement, identify actual/potential problems, and establish individualized patient goals
- Formulate and document the plan of care, establishing priorities and coordinating cost-effective use of supplies, equipment, and medication
- Implement the plan of care, ensuring safety precautions, administering prescribed treatments, and using equipment correctly
- Provide emotional support to patients and significant others, apply scientific principles in procedures, and make accurate observations of patient conditions
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient’s treatment, activity, condition, and responses to interventions according to departmental policy
- Act rapidly and effectively during emergency situations, managing self, patients, and other employees
- Collaborate with physicians and other care team members in planning and carrying out treatment regimens, providing direction to other members of the care team
- Perform various types of Decubitus Care and administer medications correctly and safely
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred. Must be enrolled in an accredited program within 24 months of employment (if hired after Sept 1, 2010) and obtain a BSN degree within five (5) years of employment date.
