This Registered Nurse (RN) role in Cardiac Rehab involves utilizing evidence-based practices to develop patient-centered plans of care, focusing on assessment, education, and monitoring of patients in an outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program. The nurse collaborates within an interdisciplinary team to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Complete initial assessment for patients referred to the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program
- Identify indications and contraindications for participation, monitoring needs, and risk factor modification goals for each patient
- Complete patient education/counseling and document treatment plans with measurable goals tailored to individualized patient needs
- Evaluate, monitor, and document patient response to exercise therapy (blood pressure, heart rate, perceived exertion, telemetry/EKG, oxygen saturation, daily weight, blood sugar, ventricular assist devices)
- Report significant acute conditions (e.g., dysrhythmias, blood pressure, angina symptoms, weight gain) to the supervising physician immediately
- Report ongoing, abnormal trends to physician/provider as needed via event report
- Initiate ACLS measures and/or emergency care according to hospital policy
- Complete tasks related to patient recruitment, insurance pre-certification, registration, and records management (Scott Care, Epic)
- Keep current in the field of cardiac rehabilitation through journals, in-services, mock codes, conferences, and staff meetings
Requirements
- Current Connecticut State RN License
- Current BLS/ACLS
- BSN degree
- Meets the skills criteria for Cardiac Rehab Nurse Competencies
- Capable of meeting the physical and emotional demands of the position
Qualifications
- BSN required; MSN preferred
- Two years of recent and relevant experience in a cardiovascular clinical area (e.g., Coronary Care, Cardiac Rehab, Congestive Heart Failure) preferred
Nice to Have
- MSN degree
- Previous Cardiac Rehab experience with knowledge of exercise therapy
- Previous experience in a cardiovascular clinical area (Coronary Care, Cardiac Rehab, Congestive Heart Failure)
- Two years of recent and relevant experience
- Desire to work within a comprehensive health care team
