Registered Nurse - Cardiac Rehab

About This Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiac Rehab utilizes evidence-based practices to develop a plan of care for patients in an outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program. This role integrates clinician, teacher, consultant, and researcher components into direct patient care, focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs.

Responsibilities

• Complete initial assessments for patients referred to the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program
• Identify indications and contraindications for participation, and specific monitoring needs/risk factor modification goals for each patient
• Complete patient education/counseling and document treatment plans with measurable goals tailored to individualized patient needs
• Evaluate, monitor, and document patient responses to exercise therapy, including blood pressure, heart rate, perceived exertion, and EKG
• Report significant acute participant conditions (e.g., dysrhythmias, angina symptoms, weight gain) to the supervising physician immediately
• Initiate ACLS measures and/or emergency care according to hospital policy
• Complete tasks related to patient recruitment, insurance pre-certification, registration, and records management
• Keep current in the field of cardiac rehabilitation through journals, in-services, mock codes, conferences, and staff meetings

Requirements

• Current Connecticut State RN License
• Current BLS/ACLS
• BSN
• Capable of meeting the physical and emotional demands of the position
• Desire to work within a comprehensive health care team

Qualifications

• BSN required; MSN preferred
• Previous Cardiac Rehab experience preferred with knowledge of exercise therapy; two years of recent and relevant experience in a cardiovascular clinical area (e.g., Coronary Care, Cardiac Rehab, Congestive Heart Failure) preferred.
