About This Role

This internship/co-op role allows Mechanical Engineers to gain hands-on experience in a refinery setting, focusing on industry best practices, critical thinking, and collaborative engineering. Interns will work with a team of professionals to understand refining processes and develop project management and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with industry codes and best practices in a refinery setting
  • Build critical thinking skills related to refining processes
  • Gain understanding of how different engineering disciplines collaborate
  • Work with a team running a specific portion of the refining process to gain broad plant operation knowledge
  • Expand written and verbal presentation skills in a professional work environment
  • Develop and use project management skills to create project scopes, estimates, and schedules for Area Refining Engineer/Project Engineer roles
  • Oversee design efforts and assist in construction processes as a project manager
  • Support the refinery's Maintenance Department through design and development of equipment-related improvements as a Reliability Engineer
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis and optimize maintenance programs for rotating equipment
  • Troubleshoot fixed equipment like refinery pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and piping systems
  • Research new technology in design, materials, and repair methods to achieve refinery goals

Requirements

  • Majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering
  • Strong academic performance
  • Authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without employment visa sponsorship
  • Concurrent enrollment in a degree seeking program
  • A valid driver's license
