This role supports imaging technologists by preparing patients and examination rooms for imaging procedures, ensuring patient identification and understanding, and assisting with patient transfer and transportation. It involves using radiology computer systems for requisitions and patient information, as well as positioning patients for radiologic examinations under direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Support imaging technologists with preparation of patient and examination room prior to, during, and following imaging procedures
- Organize and prepare exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, and maintaining equipment
- Verify patient identification using two identifiers and communicate with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, and address questions
- Assist patient in preparation for exam and in transferring patients to and from exam rooms
- Transport patients to other areas of the facility as required
- Use radiology computer systems to generate requisitions, check schedules, and obtain pertinent patient information
- Review patients medical record to obtain necessary clinical information and compare requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy
- Position patients and select exposure factors for various radiologic examinations following accepted radiation protection and safety practices under the direct supervision of a licensed radiographer
- Ensure that images and other patient records are accurately documented in SmartChart, RIS, and PACS in a timely manner
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology
- Completion of a minimum of 12 months training in an accredited program in Radiology
- Anticipated completion from a Radiography program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT
- Successful completion and documentation of clinical competencies and associated academic course work in various imaging procedures (Chest, Abdomen, Spine and Pelvis, Head, Upper Extremity, Lower Extremity, Thorax, IVP, Fluoroscopy, Upper GI, Small Bowel, Lower GI, Gall Bladder)
- Successful completion and documentation of academic course work in Patient Care and Basic Radiation Safety and Protection
- Good communication and patient care skills
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
- No experience required.
