About This Role

The Medical Assistant will perform diverse clinical and administrative tasks to support patient care within Atrium Health's Pulmonology department. This role involves adhering to medical assistant scope of practice, maintaining patient safety and confidentiality, and demonstrating professionalism and compassion.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice, policies, and procedures, maintaining training and competency.
  • Perform rooming/visit tasks including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings.
  • Assist provider with or perform procedures as ordered.
  • Perform lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
  • Administer medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
  • Communicate effectively and timely, demonstrating teamwork and appropriate escalation.
  • Maintain a clean work environment, ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately and areas are stocked.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or structured military training, or 2 years verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years (depending on division requirements)
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification (or to be obtained within 45 days)

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent military/EMT training, or 2 years verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
