About This Role

This role involves the precise calibration of radiation-producing equipment, ensuring dose accuracy, patient safety, and the maintenance of a robust quality assurance program within a proton radiation therapy setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform delivery of non-standard, standard and complicated treatment planning and techniques
  • Calibrate various therapy machines and measure instruments against national standards
  • Measure therapy beam data for treatment planning purposes
  • Lead and facilitate the troubleshooting process, collaborating with Medical Engineers
  • Operate and perform quality assurance (QA) on equipment as required
  • Perform radiation surveys of patients exposed to radioactive sources and treatment rooms
  • Enter and validate data in treatment planning systems
  • Assist with writing specifications and commissioning new therapy equipment and accessories
  • Design new techniques and ancillary equipment as required
  • Rapidly adopt and champion implementation of new technology and techniques
  • Serve as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for staff, and conduct in-services
  • Assist in completion of competencies for other staff
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulating and accrediting bodies

Requirements

  • Completion of a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics residency program
  • Knowledge of treatment units and simulators
  • Knowledge of record and verify and radiation oncology electronic medical record systems
  • Knowledge and ability to learn and apply complex radiation therapy principles
  • Proficient with general radiation equipment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication abilities
  • Excellent problem solving abilities and analytical skills

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Medical Physics.
  • No experience required.
