Manage a diverse portfolio of public works capital improvement projects from planning through construction for the City of Chico, encompassing engineering, budgeting, and contract administration.
Responsibilities
- Serve as project manager for a wide variety of public works and other capital improvement projects, including construction administration, traffic studies, and master plan developments
- Prepare and/or participate in the preparation and review of preliminary and final engineering plans, cost estimates, cost analysis studies, specifications, and schedules for public works projects
- Prepare and administer contracts for engineering consulting services, determining scope, preparing RFPs, and directing contracted service providers
- Provide coordination, guidance, and oversight for all project phases including planning, construction, and close-out, ensuring adherence to City standards
- Assist in the preparation and review of bid documents, requests for proposals, and contracts, participating in selection and negotiation
- Participate in the development and administration of project budgets, monitoring expenditures and forecasting funds needed
- Prepare and monitor project schedules, coordinating implementation through completion
- Supervise inspections during all phases of construction for conformance with approved plans, specifications, and regulations
- Oversee development and updates of the City's infrastructure programs, including Pavement Management Program and master plans
- Investigate field problems, respond to citizen inquiries, and provide information to the public regarding permits and property information
- Represent the City in negotiations and conferences with consultants, other jurisdictions, and external agencies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, construction management, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in managing, planning, and designing public facilities/infrastructure projects or construction management for public projects
- Valid California Driver’s License
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in managing, planning, and designing public facilities or infrastructure projects, and/or involvement in construction management for public projects.
